BOSS 826 ACOUSTICAL SOUND SEALANT
BOSS 826 Acoustical Sound Sealant is a one-part, non- flammable, latex based product formulated to reduce sound transmission in all types of wall partition systems. BOSS 826 will achieve a Sound Transmission Class (STC) of 53 when applying it in accordance with ASTM C-919 "Standard Practice for use of Sealants in Acoustical Applications". To achieve the 53 STC, BOSS 826 should be applied as two beads of sealant at the top, bottom and all perimeter edges.
BOSS 826 is a non-staining, non-migrating formulation that adheres well to most substrates including wood, metal, concrete and gypsum board. BOSS 826 Acoustical Sound Sealant creates a tough, elastic seal against sound, air infiltration (drafts) and moisture.
*BOSS 826 is commonly used to seal the gaps between the floor/ceiling/wall and new framing/drywall/MLV. It is also used to fill the spaces between drywall panels before mud/spackle is applied for finishing.
APPLICATIONS
BOSS 826 Acoustical Sound Sealant was developed for commercial construction where light-weight cavity walls and floors are utilized and sound rated assembly is required. Examples include unexposed perimeter joints, wood or metal floor and ceiling runners, cut-outs in gypsum board and veneer plaster systems.
BOSS 826 can also enhance acoustical performance around electrical boxes and outlets, HVAC ducts and returns and wall penetrations made by utility equipment. BOSS 826 effectively seals out drafts and moisture around base and sill plates.
HOW TO USE
All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of any foreign substances that might interfere with adhesion. This includes dust, dirt, oil, moisture etc. Trim cartridge nozzle to desired bead size and puncture inner seal. Recommended bead size is 3/8".
Apply sealant in the sound rated system being installed (wood or metal studs).
1. Bottom Runners:
Run continuous 3/8" bead on each side of runners before setting gypsum board. Set gypsum board into sealant to form complete contact/seal with adjacent materials. Repeat for double layer applications as well as mass loaded vinyl layer (if applicable).
2. Top Runners:
Apply BOSS 826 Acoustical Sound Sealant at the top of the gypsum board into the joint to provide full contact between the board and structure above.
3. Perimeter Joints and Cut-Outs:
Apply to pipes, the backs of electrical boxes, duct systems, utility equipment penetrating wall systems with BOSS 826. All perimeter edge joints should be sealed with sealant including all joints at abutting surfaces and corner joints formed by components.4. Drywall Joints:BOSS 826 Acoustical Sound Sealant is applied to fill in the joints between two gypsum boards on a sound rated wall/ceiling assembly. Fill in all the joints and wipe excess sealant with a putty knife. Spackle/Mud can be applied directly ontop of the sound sealant after 24 hours.
