ACOUSTICAL INSULATION PRODUCT GUIDE

Our Acoustical Insulation Products can be used in a number of applications. To help show you the products that relate to your particular application, we break our products out into three different categories.

The first category is Sound-Enhancement which uses Acoustical Insulation products to fine tune sound for ideal listening or recording atmospheres. These applications are generally sound studios, vocal booths, and home theater rooms.

The second category is Sound-Control which uses Acoustical Insulation products to reduce the amount of sound or noise in the air to provide a more comfortable space. These applications can vary from loud restaurants, noisy nightclubs and bars, churches, and classrooms to name just a few.

The third category is Sound-Proofing which uses Acoustical Insulation products to prevent sound waves from entering or exiting a particular space. These applications can vary from renters with noisy neighbors, loud engine or pump rooms, and laundry rooms to name just a few.

SOUND-ENHANCEMENT:

Fiberglass Acoustic Boards

Owens Corning Fiberglass Acoustic Boards are used as the sound absorbing material inside Acoustic Panels which are hung on walls and ceilings to reduce a range of sound frequencies. Fiberglass Acoustic Boards come in 24" x 48" panels and come in thicknesses of 1", 1.5", and 2".

700 Series Acoustic Board:

703: 3# Density is the most popular and most price-efficient product for framed acoustic panels.

705: 6# Density is recommended for frameless acoustic panel applications due to its extreme rigidity.

Sound Acoustic Boards

Owens Corning Select Sound Acoustic boards are used to absorb up to 100% of the sound that strikes the insulation's surface. Select Sound is black throughout (no yellow) and has a fiber based mat facing that is durable and allows the product to be easily cleaned by vaccuum.

Available in 1" and 2" thicknesses (48" x 96")

Roxul Mineralwool Boards

Roxul Mineralwool Acoustic Boards are used as the sound absorbing material inside Acoustic Panels and Bass Traps because of the product's ability to absorb lower frequencies (bass). Roxul Mineralwool is made from Basalt rock and can have much higher densities than other fiberglass products.

Most Popular Panel Sizes: (24" x 48")

2" thick 8# Density

4" thick 4# Density

Acoustic Impaling Clips

Acoustic Impaling Clips are used to easily attach Acoustic Panels to walls. Each clip has 8 spikes that stick into the fiberglass and hold the panel in place. The dimensions of the clips are 2-1/8" x 1-1/2". The impaling clips are installed on the wall by either 1 drywall screw (not included) or attached with adhesive. 4-6 impaling clips are recommended per standard 2' x 4' panel making sure one impaling clip is placed in each corner.

Bass Trap Impaling Brackets

Bass Trap Impaling Brackets are used to easily attach Bass Trap Panels to corners of walls to cut off bass sound wave reverberation throughout the room. For each Bass Trap, 4 Brackets must be used (2 Lefts and 2 Rights). The brackets are precision cut on a 45 degree angle and can easily be screwed into the wall through die cut holes. Sold in Sets of 2 (4 Lefts and 4 Rights).

Joist Isolation Clips

Floating Floor Rubber Joist Isolation Clips are used to soften the connection between subflooring and the floor joists. These 2" wide pieces of EPDM rubber are designed to clip onto the bottom of a stud or joist by friction (no use of a fastener). Rubber Joist Isolation clips are used primarily in floating floors of home theaters and sound studios to decouple the new floor from the subfloor.

SOUND-PROOFING PRODUCTS:

Products in the Sound-Proofing category are used to help prevent the passage of sound waves through a structure (usually a wall/ceiling).

Mass Loaded Vinyl

MetroFlex Mass Loaded Vinyl is a sound barrier material that is one of the highest rated and top selling soundproofing products on the market. Mass Loaded Vinyl is a heavy yet flexible damping product that can add sound blocking mass to any wall/ceiling. MetroFlex MLV has a standalone STC rating of 27 which is comparable to adding a 2x4 wall with 1/2" drywall on both sides! MLV is most commonly installed inside two sheets of drywall or installed on the studs with a layer of drywall placed over it.

Acoustic Fire Batt

Roxul AFB (Acoustic Fire Batt) is an acoustic insulation made out of basalt rock and has a higher density than traditional fiberglass batt insulation. Roxul AFB is installed in interior walls, ceilings, and floors to help absorb sound waves. Roxul AFB can be easily cut and uses friction fit to install between 16" on center studs for quick and easy installation. Roxul AFB is also a fireproofing product that helps slow down the spread of flames in case of fire.

Noiseproofing Compound Tubes

Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is a viscoelastic damping compound that is applied between two rigid layers of building materials (usually drywall) to soundproof the walls, ceilings, or floors. By damping these vibrations, Green Glue is able to reduce the amount of sound transferring from one side of the structure to the other.

Acoustic Floor Mat

Owens Corning QuietZone Acoustic Floor Mat is composed of a lightweight, closed cell, extruded polyethylene foam, and is acoustically engineered to isolate sound vibrations and impact noises. Wall performance will also increase, as flanking noise will be reduced.*Recommended for use with MetroFlex MLV on Flooring

Resilient Sound Clips

MetroFlex Resilient Sound Clips are used to decouple new drywall from the existing wall studs/ceiling joists. The Resilient Sound Clips are screwed into the wood or metal studs and hold drywall furring channel in place. The drywall sheets are then installed over the furring channel which limits the amount of contact between the new drywall and the existing wall/ceiling. MetroFlex Reslient Sound Clips reduce the amount of sound vibration transmission through the wall/ceiling structure, creating a more sound resistant barrier.

Acoustic Blocking Sealant

MetroFlex Sound SealR Acoustic Blocking Sealant is a latex-based sealant that is used to seal joints of mass loaded vinyl and used to seal the outside perimeters of wood framing and drywall of soundproof walls. Sound SealR is specially formulated to remain flexible after fully curing allowing it to absorb vibrational sound waves. MetroFlex Sound SealR Sealant can also be applied on the face of studs before drywall application and can be used to fill small holes and cracks.

Box Putty Pads

Outlet Box Putty Pads are square sticky pads that are applied to the backside of electrical outlet boxes or light switch boxes to block out sound waves. When constructing a sound barrier wall, these outlet boxes are usually mistakenly left alone, allowing sound to easily channel through these openings. With the simple application of a putty pad, these openings for sound are closed, helping the wall retain its STC rating.
